Sport Administrator of the Year

Congratulations to our very own Shane Donen on winning the Community Sport Administrator Excellence Award for 2014.

This Volleyball BC Award recognizes the contributions made by a dedicated volleyball administrator, coach or official who has given countless hours so that athletes can enjoy the benefits of well-organized sport.

Shane Donen is one of the founding members of Seaside Volleyball Club and has been the President since its inception in December of 2002. Since that time Seaside has seen substantial growth and development, serving youth in White Rock, South Surrey and beyond. The club has developed a strong foundation, thanks to the leadership that Shane brings to the club. Shane’s dedication to well-organized sport extends beyond his local community, and Shane has dedicated a great deal of time to developing our sport in the province. In 2010, Shane was named the CEO of the Pacific Volleyball Society which was a key contributor in the development of the Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Shane is in his second year as the club representative on the Volleyball BC Regional Development Committee, which guides the delivery of club services in BC. Shane is also a founding member of “Bring the Team”, the bid committee working to have Canada’s Women’s National Team relocated their training centre to Vancouver in 2017. In addition to his work as an administrator, Shane has also put in countless hours on the court, both as a coach where he has seen more than his share of success, and as a mentor to help ensure the continued success and growth of the club.
