VBC Coach of the Year: Mark Cassell

Mark is a former winner of the Volleyball BC Coach of the Year award for High School, coaching Semiahmoo Secondary Senior girls to 3 consecutive provincial championships in a row and one second place finish for the past 4 years.

Mark has continued this successful run in club volleyball, with a 2nd place finish at provincials and a top 5 at nationals last year with the U15 group at Seaside.

This year, he took that same group of athletes, with a few changes to the line up and put together a real force in U16 this season. Their goals were specific: peak at the right time and go for gold. They did not disappoint. In the extremely competitive U 16 age group, they won provincials and then set their sights on nationals. With an even more competitive field, they fought hard and won the national title.

Mark brings a level of expectation and confidence to the team that translates into great results. He is highly respected and liked by his players and the coaches he competes against across the net.

He is a tireless coach, not only running up-tempo practices, but working with the girls on mental and physical training and advice.

Congratulations to Mark for being selected as this year’s winner of the U16 Coach of the Year.
